Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

Matthew 7:7-8

Some of the most profound revelations come in the most simplest of ways.  Yet, the most basic things of life are often so simple, those looking for something more profound will often bypass them.  Ecclesiasties says, “God made men upright, but they have sought out many devices.” (Ecclesiastes 7:29, portion).

Jesus said this, in the Sermon on the Mount.

But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Matthew 6:33

So you see, you don’t even need to understand what the Kingdom is, at least at the beginning.  You could simply do something so simple, such as open up your Bible to Exodus 33:18, where Moses asked God to show him His glory.  And, in simple faith, just ask God to do the same for you.

Now, let me back up a couple steps here.  God is no respector of persons.  What Moses received, he received because of his faith, his walk, his time in history and God’s plan, and other facts.  There are not formulas with God, but there are direct principles.  There is no reason God would not show His glory to you like He did Moses, but He might require something of it first.

Consider the ministry of Jesus.  He was baptised by John, driven by the Spirit into the wilderness, and fasted 40 days.  On returning from the wilderness, he cam back in the power of the spirit.  Fasting for 40 days is a good thing, but, as has been witnessed, it does not guarantee you will come back in the power that Jesus did.  For instance, upon fasting for 40 days, one individual found himself extremely disappointed.  He found such gross darkness surfacing in his life, such unforgiveness, such striving, among other things.  He despaired nearly of life, because, in his mind, he was fasting for the power of Jesus to be poured out on him.

But, what he didn’t understand was the very things he was coming face to face with WAS God’s answer to his prayer, and his fast.  What he didn’t understand was a very simple principle.

The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.

Luke 11:34

While he was interested in the outward, God has always first been interested in the inward first.  The very things he began seeing in his life were the blockages, the things God needed to remove to answer this young man’s request.  What he didn’t see at the outset, God was now showing him, and although it was not at all what he “wanted”, it was exactly what he needed.  If he continued on, allowing the Lord to prepare himself, I have no doubt that he would see the power.

Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.  For My own sake, for My own sake, I will act; For how can My name be profaned?  And My glory I will not give to another.

Isaiah 48:10-11

God wanted to show Moses his glory, and for this reason, He prepared him.

Moses reminded Israel in similar fashion.

You shall remember all the way which the LORD your God has led you in the wilderness these forty years, that He might humble you, testing you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not.

Deuteronomy 8:2

God’s ways have not changed.  He wants you to ask, but the journey from here to there may be too much for you to make on what you already have within you.  Like to Elijah, He gave a second cake of bread by an angel (1 Kings 19:7), He may need to supply us with greater provision of the bread of His presence, the meat of his word, in order for us to arrive without collapsing in the way.

If we take Him at his word, that we are to seek first His Kingdom and His Righteousness, we must ask and keep on asking, seek and keep on seeking, knock and keep on knocking.  We must, because He has told us to.  If all we have is an idea, a concept in our minds of what this is, it will most likely need to be adjusted over time, but we can be sure of this.  What we seek diligently, we will find, what we ask for repeatedly, we will receive, and what we knock at, will be opened, sooner or later.

When that door opens, we will be most happy, for He is a rewarder of those who diligently pursue Him (Hebrews 11:6).
