Your Kingdom

November 17th, 2011

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Matthew 6:9-10 (portion)

His Kingdom is an Eternal Kingdom.  As He is never changing, neither is His Kingdom.  Jesus’ prayer for His disciples was that it would be on the Earth here even as it is there, in the Heavens.

When we pray for His Kingdom, we are not praying for a kingdom some day to show upon the Earth and rule physically in the world, although that may be a portion of its manifestation some day.  But, as the Holy Ghost is invisible, and He is like the wind which is here but you don’t know where it comes from or where it goes, so is the Kingdom by His power.

The fallacy of Western study is that if you cannot see it, it is some how less powerful.  The nature of unbelief is to “believe” or have more “faith” in what you can see, touch, and interact with on an earthly plane, on a soulish level, as opposed to that spiritual level, which Jesus said was only visible and accessible to the born again believer (John 3:3-5).

This is how we know for sure that the Kingdom is not primarily earthly (other than Jesus saying plainly as such in John 18:36), because it is impossible for the non-believer to even perceive it.  Oh, an unbeliever may perceive a miracle, but that is merely the manifestation, the activity or demonstration of the Kingdom, not the Kingdom itself.  As a man sees the leaves blow, he knows the wind is there, but he does not ever see the wind.  He sees leaves blow.  He feels the force on his face.  He never sees the wind.

Thus it is with His Kingdom.  It always has been this way, it always will be this way.  When Heaven and Earth pass away, it will still be this way, for of the increase of His government and peace, there will be no end (Isaiah 9:7).

This is also not primarily a spiritual reality somehow, “symbolically” or not, in the hearts of the believers, although it is recognized there as well.  Whether man believes or not, the Kingdom reigns.  As two spiritual kingdoms in dire opposition, the Kingdom of Heaven opposes the kingdom of darkness.  Whether this is seen, experienced, perceived, or not, is not the issue.  It is reality, it is fact.

The Kingdom exists.  It exists in a plane we call “the spirit” (small “s”).  It superceeds not only all of the natural order (Colossians 1:16), but also all other realms of “spirit”.  As Christ is seated in the heavenlies, above all rule, power, and authority (Ephesians 1:20-21), so is His Kingdom therefore superior to all others.

Jesus said that if He cast out demons by the finger of God, then the Kingdom had truly come upon them (those listening) (Luke 11:20).  He said the Kingdom of Heaven belonged to, present tense, those who were poor in Spirit or persecuted for righteousness sake (Matthew 5:3, 10).

Don’t expect someone who does not have faith to understand the Kingdom.  The things of the Spirit cannot be understood by the natural mind, in fact, they are foolishness to Him, for they are spiritually discerned (1 Corinthians 2:14).  Don’t interpret the Kingdom to be something that you can figure out by your natural reasoning, nor as something that a non-believer could perceive or conceive of.

Yet as true as an anointing from the Lord can be felt (Luke 8:46), and as sure as God is to be known by us by the Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:10, note the context in contrast to the Old Covenant as described in 1 Corinthians 2:9), as sure as we have a baptism in the Holy Spirit, and of the same nature, there is a Kingdom.

If there were not a Kingdom, a basis for rule and authority, we would have no basis for authority to cast out demons.  Even as Jesus said that deliverance was the evident token that the Kingdom was in their midst, just as the leaves blowing is the sign that the wind is there, it is because of the authority of that present Kingdom.  It is on the authority and power of that Kingdom that we overthrow hell NOW, TODAY.  It is because of the ever present Kingdom of Heaven, enforced and empowered through the agency of angels (if the US Government sent the FBI to a house to confiscate some goods, is it not still the government that is doing it?  Are not the FBI agents, the messengers of the government, merely the arm of the government, acting in obedience to the authority given?  Does it detract from the earthly glory of the government that it uses servants to carry out its bidding?  No, it actually adds to it!  Same with God… Is it God that’s healing or an angel?  YES!  The angel is God’s angel, sent with God’s message, sent with God’s power, to deliver, and to minister unto the heirs of salvation.  This is to God’s glory.  Is it an angel?  Yes.  Is it God Himself?  He who rejects a God’s messenger rejects not the messenger, but God Himself, therefore, whoever receives the same messenger, receives not the messenger, but the one who sent it, so, Yes, it is God.  Is there more to it than this?  Probably lots..).

The Kingdom proves itself every time a soul is born again, and delivered from the dominion of darkness and transferred to the Kingdom of His Son (Colossians 1:13).

When we pray, “Your Kingdom come, your will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven”, we are asking for that reality in which God lives in all the time to be made manifest amongst us.  We are asking that His dominion come and exert itself against the earthly forces, against the powers and principalities dominating us, and throw them back, that we might come into the fullness of the liberty of the sons of light, ultimately to the complete fulfillment of Romans 8:21.

When we are praying for His Kingdom, it is the government of heaven dwelling in and around us, possessing us with His Spirit, making us so totally His temples, that the works of the enemy are destroyed (1 John 3:8).

As the Kingdom is made manifest on the Earth, we will see governments shift, laws change, hearts opened to the gospel, and the manifestations we long to see, such as signs and wonders and miracles.  Just as the leaves move when the wind blows, when the Kingdom comes, things move.
