Don’t Back Off
They all wait for You To give them their food in due season.
Psalm 104:27
If God clothes the flowers of the field so well, and we still worry, are we not of little faith (Matthew 6:30)?
Consider these two principles. We are Most Happy when we run out of strength, and, We are Most Happy when we are persecuted for righteousness sake. The reason for this happiness, in both instances, is because ours is the Kingdom!
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.Isaiah 40:29-31
Jesus is the reason. He is the reason for our celebration today, and He is the reason for the deliverances of yesterday. All through the Old Covenant, everything pointed to one thing, the Son of Man.
Even here, we see the solution to our need.
When we feel ourselves with lack of strength, lack of courage, and lack of fortitude to stand, we do not need to back off. We must follow the Lord in all we do, but His promise to us is that, when we run out, He will back us. His promise is that as we are persecuted for doing things right, He will show up with His power.
Even in waiting, hoping, is our strength. He renews the strength of those who wait on Him.
We must not be rash in our decision making. We must not be hasty to do every latest thing that we think God might bless. But, as we are trained to hear His voice and obey it, it doesn’t matter what the opposition is. As we heed that voice, and as we run out, He comes with His Kingdom for us.
We can be tempted, in the midst of the battle lines, to turn and run. Perhaps, sometimes we should. But, if we are sure God put us there, and we are sure God has us kept there, it is better to stand and die in faith than it is to turn and seek safety elsewhere.
But, when we know, we can stand. We don’t need to back off when things get heated or we run thin.
And He has said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.
2 Corinthians 12:9
Paul learned this, and was most ready to boast in his own weaknesses, so that Christ’s power would dwell in Him.
You see, it is never about you or your hand that stands. It is always His grace and His mercy and His extended scepter on your behalf. It is always His favor and His protection that covers.
Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name.
Psalm 91:14
God wants us to trust Him. In order to get a great miracle, you need a great need. In order to have an incredible deliverance, you need a great problem. In order to win, you have to be in the fight.
So, don’t back off. Prepare first, learn how to follow as best you can, and keep standing, keep fighting.
You don’t get there by sitting in your easy chair, and you don’t get there by anything other than obeying the Word of God.
His Grace is sufficient.
Johnathan, alone with his armor bearer defeated a garrison of Philistines. On their way to the encampment, he said to his young armor-bearer, “Come, let’s go over to the outpost of those uncircumcised fellows. Perhaps the LORD will act in our behalf. Nothing can hinder the LORD from saving, whether by many or by few.” 1 Samuel 14:6. He understood that it was by his own ability or strength that he could carry out the battle, but that, if the Lord acted on his behalf, they could take on whatever opposition there was. As David took on Goliath, so his good friend took out an entire group of men, because the Lord was with them both.
Sometimes, the Lord does pull us away for a season of rest and refreshment before another battle. And, sometimes, the best way to get refreshed is to get the enemy that is harassing you neutralized. Sometimes, the fresh breath of strength you need comes the moment you take a step forward towards your enemy and say, we can do this.
