Eternity or Destiny
Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.
Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the great deep.Psalm 36:5-6
What can compare to His love? What can we measure against it? For, His ways are Eternal in the heavens, and His word is Eternal?
Every sentence in the Book is true, it is mine, every chapter, every verse, every line.
What other way is there to the Father, except through Christ? Except walking in His Way, walking in His Words, His Truth, and living His Life?
Where else would we go, for He has the words of Eternal Life! (John 6:68).
The greatest man of the Kingdom who ever lived, the King of Kings, never fulfilled what was perhaps His greatest prophecy in His natural lifetime.
Then John gave this testimony: I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. I would not have known him, except that the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is he who will baptize with the Holy Spirit. I have seen and I testify that this is the Son of God.
John 1:32-34
The last of the Old Testament prophets had prophesied concerning this Son of Man that he would baptize with the Holy Spirit, yet, before the cross, Jesus never baptized anyone with the Spirit.
Yet, through the very Spirit that He would baptize other with, He was raised to the highest so that He could fulfill it, and does fulfill this word to this day.
His love, His provision, His Way. By giving all for the sake of the Father, He fulfilled His destiny.
Abraham had a promise. He was told that he would have a son. He believed, and it was credited to him as righteousness. And, it took nearly 25 years to fulfil. Yet, in the midst, in the waiting, he had another son. Instead of Isaac, he birthed Ishmael first. The first was not the son of freedom, although Abraham had received the promise, mixed with faith, and was diligently waiting for his salvation. But, instead, the son of the slave woman Hagar, Ishmael, was born.
The first son was the son of Abraham’s will. It was the product of his soul. It was his destiny, to have a son, an he loved him. Ishmael, too, was made into a great nation. But, it was not the promise, nor could it co-habitate with the Isaac to come. But, there was war, enmity between the two.
The promise by the Spirit would come later, after 13 more years of waiting. The Eternal promise would have to wait.
Yet, his heart was on it.
And, as the law was added later in the covenant, with the tabernacle, so was Ishmael only a temporary blessing that in turn became a great burden upon Abraham. For, one could say that Ishmael marked the birth of the religious, soulish serving of God’s promises. God did not condemn Abraham for having made what he made with the bond-woman, but the promise could not come through it. Ishmael was utterly worthless so far as the promise, Eternal Life and Salvation through faith, was concerned.
But, through the impossible, through the deadness of his own flesh and ability, at an age incapable of producing, the work of God was born, and continued and grew.
So great is the love of God. So marvelous is His wisdom. Only through His providence is the soul of man humbled and the purposes of man, birthed by his own heart, frustrated, so that God alone is justified and the justifier of the wicked. To His be the glory, for the great things He has done.
Abraham saw his destiny and, in the waiting, thought to produce God’s promise on His own.
But, God was not to be helped. The original promise, the impossible thing, the thing waited for, would be the one that He would bless.
It is not the outward works of a man that God regards, but the hidden, inner workings of him that God considers worthy of blessing or cursing, honor or dishonor. Man looks on the outward appearance, but God looks on the heart.
Abraham thought to accomplish his destiny, and produced greater bondage. Jesus laid his own prophecy of His fullness aside, seemingly, realizing, of course, that a seed must fall to the ground and die for it to be multiplied.
Abraham created a nation before he birthed Israel, but it’s end is in the Earth, and when the heavens and earth pass away, so does it. Not the people, who through faith accept Jesus as their savior, but the nation of Ishmael. It will cease with none to prolong it, as all works of man do.
But, in pursuing the Eternal, Jesus accomplished His Destiny. In seeing the unseen, and the thing that God required, He accomplished what even Peter wanted to see when he tried to keep Jesus from the Cross. Peter didn’t want to see Jesus die, and now, because He has been raised Eternal, His Kingdom will now never be given to another, for He reigns forever as its King and High Priest, never to die again! The very thing Jesus and Peter wanted had to come through through God’s way, or not be.
The Kingdom is the primary thing.
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Matthew 6:33 KJV
Only one thing matters, seeking the King.
Only one thing remains, Faith, Hope, and Love.
Only one thing is Eternal, His Eternal Word.
And, the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us.
If we focus on our Destiny, we may fulfill it to a form, but it will be soulish, carnal, and empty. It will be sent away. We may love it, but it will never bear the Promise, Jesus Christ.
But, if we set our eyes on things above, our hearts on things above, and not on things beneath, we will fulfill our Eternal, and through it, we will see our Destiny come before us in God’s time, through His hand, and in His power.
And, it will be worth it.
Isaiah 40:6-8
A voice says, Cry out. And I said, What shall I cry? All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field.
The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the LORD blows on them. Surely the people are grass.
The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever.
